BARELY one month after over 500 leaders and All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Delta State, opposition political parties in the area have yet suffered another heavy casualties, as no fewer than 1,000 members also defected to PDP in Ashaka and Ushie communities during the party’s community-to-community campaigns.

The defectors were drawn from APC, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Labour Party (LP) took the advantage of the final bit of the PDP campaign in the area to perfect their decisions.

The leader of the decampees, Mr. Francis Ogbum, who spoke on behalf of others, explained that their decision was based on the observation that the PDP administration in Delta State had convincingly performed beyond all expectations.

He noted that as former members of opposition parties in the area, they were fed up with the hardship, hunger and insecurity currently ravaging the country. “We have observed that PDP is the light of the Nigerian nation and the party is now on a missionto rescue the country, so let us join hands to rescue Nigeria”, he emphasized.

While thanking PDP leaders in the loal government area for welcoming them, Mr. Ogbum pleaded for their equal recognition and treatment, promising to fetch more members of opposition parties into PDP in order to actualize a landslide victory of the PDP candidates.

While receiving the decampees, the Chairman of PDP in Ndokwa East, Chief Vincent Osilonya, congratulated them on the wise decision, assuring them of equal recognition and treatment with the old members. Chief Osilonya requested the decampees to show commitment and dedication towards working for the success of PDP in all the forthcoming elections.

In other statements, the PDP LGA Chairman condemned the antecedent of some former PDP members, who defected to opposition parties to fight and blaspheme the PDP leaders for selfish reasons.

On his part, a chieftain of PDP and current DESOPADEC Commissioner representing the area, Mr. Azaka Ossai, also expressed satisfaction with the large crowds of supporters that turned out for the campaigns. He particularly commended the decampees for recognizing the supremacy of PDP over opposition parties and assured them of adequate dividends of democracy after the victories of the party’s candidates.

The DESOPADEC commissioner further asserted that Ndokwa East and Delta State remained dominantly PDP, pointing out that all candidates of the opposition parties were members and beneficiaries of PDP administration in the past. He reminded the party supporters of the task ahead and charged them to ensure the success of the PDP candidates at the polls.

Meanwhile, an ex-Chairman of PDP in the area, Chief Joe Ugboma, earlier during the campaigns, described the party as indomitable and advised all supporters to be courageous in the effort to achieve the objective of 100 percent victory for all their candidates, lauding the massive turn out and daily defection to PDP by members of opposition parties.
