DELTA State Government, on Monday, received Beauty Queens from across the continent ahead of the fifth edition of the Miss Africa Golden Pageantry slated to hold on January 12, 2023.
The queens drawn from Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Eritrea, Namibia, Burundi, Cameroun and the Gambia would participate in the pageantry aimed at promoting the African heritage.
Welcoming them to the state, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, told the contestants that the pageantry transcended medal acquisition but stimulated Africa’s unity and integration.
‘’You have come to see the love that permeates the atmosphere here in Delta, which is about the most peaceful state in Nigeria. Beyond the entertainment aspect of the pageantry, you are also helping to cement the bonds of unity that should exist among countries in Africa.
‘’Again, you are also helping us to create employment opportunities and produce employable individuals in our society. Today, we have the challenge of unemployment across Africa but with your efforts, you have expanded the frontiers of engaging the youths beyond yourselves’’, he said.
Mr. Aniagwu advised them (pageants) to be good ambassadors of the countries that they represented, even as he wished them well in their individual and collective endeavors in promoting Africa’s oneness.
In the same vein, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Engr. Lawrence Ejiofor, expressed optimism that the visit of the pageants would further export the tourism potentials of Delta State and the legacies of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Entertainment, Mr. Frank Otoide (alias Frank D Don) commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for providing an enabling environment for entertainers to ply their trade in the state.
Commenting on the pageantry, Mr. Otoide said that Delta has been preferred above other states due to its peaceful disposition, rich hospitality prospects, and first-rate social amenities.
Remarking, the convener of Miss Africa Golden Pageantry, Sapphire Obi, said that the initiative sought to promote Africa’s originality, culture, and tourism, even as she solicited the support of the state government in making the pageantry achieve its objectives.
Meanwhile, the pageants marvelled at the movie and tourism/leisure park in Asaba, where they experienced a foretaste of Delta’s warmth and hospitality as some of them who spoke to newsmen confessed.
